Most washing machine breakdowns we see at ZEEVON start small and get expensive only because nobody caught them early. A quick wipe here, a clean filter there, and a little attention to how you load the machine can keep it going for years. Here are the habits that matter most.
1. Clean the door seal after every wash
In front-load machines, the rubber door seal traps water, lint, and detergent residue. Over time this grows mould, smells bad, and damages the seal itself. Wipe the seal dry and leave the door slightly open after each wash so the drum can air out.
2. Clean the filter and lint trap regularly
The drain filter catches coins, buttons, hairpins, and lint. When it blocks, water stops draining and the machine can throw an error. Clean it every 3–4 weeks — most machines have a small flap at the bottom-front that makes this easy.
3. Use the right amount of detergent
Too much detergent creates excess foam, leaves residue on clothes, and strains the pump. Use the measuring cup that came with the machine and follow the dose on your detergent pack for the water hardness in your area.
4. Don’t overload the drum
An overloaded drum puts heavy strain on the belt, bearings, and motor. Clothes should move freely inside the drum before the water fills. When in doubt, run a slightly smaller load — the machine will last longer.
5. Check the inlet and drain hoses
Once every few months, look behind the machine for kinks, cracks, or bulges in the hoses. A small bulge usually means a burst waiting to happen. Cotton residue from the detergent drawer can also choke the hoses over time.
6. Listen for changes in sound
A new hum, rattle, or grinding during the spin is usually an early warning — often a bearing or belt starting to wear. Catching it early means a small, predictable repair instead of a big one later.
If you notice anything unusual — a leak, standing water, a smell, or a strange sound — book a visit early. A thorough diagnosis early is almost always cheaper than a repair after a complete failure.
